Meet Christo Doko - Master Craftsman

December 20, 2018

It’s with great pleasure that we welcome Christo Doko, Master Craftsman & newest member of the SZ family. Below is a brief Q&A offering insights Christo’s background and recent journey to the US.

1) How did you first get into construction?

My first experience in construction started when I was eighteen. I had just emigrated to Greece, and I started to build for economic reasons. However, I realized quickly that I liked the line of work and decided to make it my profession.

2) What was it like living and working in Albania - Greece?

Due to the Albanian Civil War, living and working conditions were very bad. Safety for my life and an uncertain future forced me to leave my country and emigrate to Greece. Of course, in the beginning, it was very difficult. But with hard work, desire to succeed, and the knowledge I had in construction – life indeed got better. I was then able to support my family.

3) What brought your family to the United States?

My family and I came to the United States because of the seriousness of our son's medical issues. In Greece, they did the best they could, but it wasn’t enough. After much discussion with our doctors and the information they gave regarding the U.S. health care system, we decided to make our way here. Our son is doing much better and progressing nicely.

4) What are a few cultural/professional difference you’ve noticed between the US & Greece?

Protective equipment and safety throughout the job is much higher here than in Greece. Also, there is a cooperation between the employer and the employee; the worker is respected and has rights. Lastly, there is a formality on both sides.

5) Do you consider yourself an artisan rather than a builder?

I consider myself a craftsman. I have been devoted to my profession for 18 years, and I believe I have proven what I can do. Although, for me, it is not just a job but an art; I keep developing my skills and learning as time goes on.

6) What is it about SZ Build that most excites you?

With just a little bit of experience I know so far about SZ Build, I am excited about the good architecture, the good organization, and the cooperation with partners.

7) what is your Theme song?

I have many favorite songs, I will say one of them is: Celine Dion So This Is Christmas

8) What is your favorite architectural?

Acropolis of Athens
