Sylca Designs now at SZ Gallery - [Moment of Inspiration]

May 1, 2018

This month's Moment of Inspiration is Sylca Designs, a mother-daughter duo who created a jewelry line that we will be featuring at SZ Gallery starting in June! Their bold and modern designs are eco-friendly and lightweight, plus they donate a portion of their sales to a non-profit. We love how their passion for making beautiful jewelry and products makes such a positive difference in the world.

Sylca Designs is owned by Sylvia and Camila (mother and daughter, respectively); the business's name is a portmanteau of their first names. On their website, they share that they started their business "with one vision: to empower women to feel fashionable, beautiful, and, most importantly, confident." And we think their lovely jewelry definitely lives up to their mission!

Both originally from Colombia, Sylvia always had a passion for design and the fashion industry, while her daughter, Camila, has a deep appreciation for art. The combination of their skills -- along with Camila's marketing degree -- has helped them launch a company that empowers women worldwide. Their creativity and love for what they do fuels new designs for their handmade necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, scarves, and bags.

Each piece is designed with eco-friendly material, often incorporating natural products, such as wood, paper, and shells, combined with contemporary materials (such as resin). They can be worn in both casual or professional settings as a bold accent piece. So if you want to save the environment and give to a good cause while looking fashionable, their jewelry is the way to go.

Not only is their product inspirational, but their passion for helping others is inspiring, too. They support artisans in the Philippines who help make their product by donating a portion of their online sales to Kiva (also known as Kiva Microfunds, or Kiva.org). Kiva is a non-profit that provides opportunities for loans to low-income entrepreneurs and students in over 80 different countries. Sylca has set up a team page through Kiva, which allows them to support women in the Philippines who also support them through jewelry-making.

We're excited to be featuring a selection of Sylca Designs' pieces in our own gallery space. Stop by SZ Gallery on June 1st from 5 - 8 pm to see the pieces in person alongside the debut of Erin Milan's exhibit, "Vanitas."
